Still Alice

Still Alice by Lisa Genova...a must read!! I'm so happy to have come across this one, it is the best I've read this year. The characters stay with you, the story sweeps you away and it made me so grateful!

Momzillas

Momzillas by Jill Kargman...a great fast read. Actually, I listened to it and it was perfect for the car. I caught myself laughing out loud at some of the references to the main character's mother-in-law. A great message delivered lightly and humorously!

Night

Just finished Night by Elie Wiesel. I've been to the Holocaust museum and have met a woman from Poland that lived through it all. I find it incredible that all of this could actually have happened...let alone in the 20th century! Wiesel's writing is beautiful, even though the subject matter is completely brutal.

Twilight

I have finished Twilight and enjoyed it for the most part. As I'm not a fan of vampires I don't plan on reading the other 3 novels in the series. It was nice to see what all of my students have been raving about...and it was even nicer that it was clean!

The Other Queen

Well, I've finally finished The Other Queen by Philippa Gregory. In my opinion it was one of my least favorite books by her. I found the book to be very redundant. The book is narrated by three main characters; Lord Shewsbery, Bess Shewsbery, and Mary Queen of Scots. Gregory neglects to go in to depth about these characters and instead it was 400+ pages of the same descriptions...Lord Shewsbery is a fool, Bess is only concerned with acquiring more land, and Queen Mary is very beautiful and desperate to return to Scotland.

Usually after a Philippa Gregory book, I find that I am compelled to research the historical figures and learn as much as possible about them....not the case with The Other Queen.

I have borrowed Twilight from some friends, and began that this morning. I have also been listening to Momzillas on cd. All so very different from one another!

January Reading

It has been great to have time to just sit and read. I have started the year with
The Other Queen by Phillipa Gregory. So far I'm not enjoying it as much as her others, but it's not bad.

I received a book order today...The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent
Just Breathe by Susan Wiggs
A Single Thread by Marie Bostwick
When the Morning Comes by Cindy Woodsmall
When the Soul Mends by Cindy Woodsmall

Hopefully there will be something great in this pile. I love to get a book that absolutely "grabs me", however it is often difficult to find something to follow it up with.
Some of my all time favorites are The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini and A Thousand Splendid Suns also by Hosseini.
